I have started a new site to benefit all soapmakers. Five days a week a new handmade soap or soapmaker will be spotlighted.

Each spotlight will feature a description of the soap, picture, a little about you or your site, and of course, a link to your sight. All past spotlights will be listed on a separate page and your link.

There is no cost for this. Hopefully, your suppliers will advertise with us. soaps

Do You Look Your Age?

The other day I heard a man describe the lady in his office as “elderly 70 year old lady”. Why not describe her as “the lady in my office”.

Does this describe you? Not that you are 70, but he could just as easily said “elderly 60 year old lady”.  Are you still wearing the same hairdo for the last 30 years? What about makeup? I heard the most rediculous thing!  – “I am proud of these wrinkles, I earned every last one of them. Why hide them with makeup?” –   Do you say this?

Shame on you. Get a new hairdo! You don’t have to color that grey, but why not? You do not need to wear as much makeup, in fact that makes you look pasted. Use a light base the same shade as your skin. Light blush to just add a twinkle to your skin. Don’t ever paint it on! Blend it with your fingers.

Just a little care will keep someone from describing you by your age.

Retirement – Is It In Your Vocabulary?

elderly_lady6

Retirement should not be in any one’s vocabulary. Going fishing or sitting around knitting may be something you enjoy, but not 7 days a week! It is like saying, “I’m on the list. When my name reaches the top, I’ll be ready to go.”

Keep your brain active.  Always wanted to learn more about computers – take a class. Love animals? Volunteer at your local shelter or human society. Those animals are just waiting, wanting a little attention and love.  What about getting your favorite candidate elected?

Do you have an RV? Did you know you can travel all over the country, visit places you haven’t seen and get paid for doing it? Yep, you can. Google in the word “workcamper”.

There is interesting work out there. We worked one summer at an amusement park selling T-shirts and souvenirs. It was different and fun. Sad, but true, employers have found that the summer job kids are not reliable and many cannot be trusted.

Keep active and keep learning. Don’t get labeled as an  ”elderly senior citizen.”

Growing Old But Not Gracefully

I hate growing older and whenever something bugs me, I am going to vent my frustrations here.

I have come to really dislike words such as; senior citizen and elderly. Especially when the news media refer to a 50 year old as “elderly”. Or how about, an “older gentleman or lady”?

For those of you that do not keep up with Nascar racing, Mark Martin is a driver. Heaven forbid, he is 50 years old! And, he wins races and is high in the points standings. Yet, the announcers always refer to him as: “Mark Martin who is 50 years old, the oldest driver on the track, and is leading…..” The next sentence is always, “So and So is in second and he was not even born when Mark started racing!”

Guess Mark is one of a kind!  And us “old people” should act our age. Got a cane anyone?

Virus protection versus Virus Protection

Have any of you started using the Virus protection-Microsoft Security Essentials? Norton has run out and I am downloading MSE now. I like the idea that it is free (who wouldn’t?) but am a little leary. MSE claims that even though it does not scan incoming emails, you are protected.

Would love your comments on this, please.

Answers to questions about Shea Butter and Aloe Butter

The following is my answer to an inquiry about Shea Butter and Aloe Butter. I thought that many of you have the same questions. What better way to get it out to you, than through the blog?  If you have further questions write them here in the comment section.                Barb

Hi Tanika,
Thanks for you inquiry.
About refined or unrefined shea butter. Totally unrefined shea is very hard, has an distinctive odor, and usually has bits of leaves and twigs in it. A totally refined shea has been through many processes (some with chemicals) to make it very white, creamy, and with no odor. This is what you want to avoid. This process takes out all the “goodies” that make shea a great moisturizer and healing agent. All of our Shea Butter is mechanically extracted. No chemicals (other than water) are used in the process. Our refined Shea Butter is further processed by being put through clay filters and the odor is vacuumed out. It retains its healing properties and moisturizing ability. It is not a soft cream but more like butter. It melts quickly at skin temperature.
The preservative I add to shea is food grade Vitamin E. The Shea and Aloe Butters are mixed 50% shea butter and 50% aloe butter. Aloe Vera is not a natural butter so the following ingredients are added to make it into a butter consistency.

Aloe barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Extract & Cocos nucifera (Coconut Oil)
Aloe Butter is an extraction of Aloe Vera using a fatty coconut fraction to produce a soft-solid which melts on contact with the skin. Hope this answers your questions. You can read more on my website. www.silkysoftskincare.com  Go to the Learning Center.
You might also consider the Shea Butter with Tea Tree Oil. Many of my customers feel this really helps with their eczema.
