What’s coming soon…
Thursday, August 27th, 2009I am writing the second article on the Confusing Advertisements on mositurizers. It is much to long, so I need to revise and shorten it for here. One of the ingredients is just plain dangerous and others are borderline. I will stick to my pure shea butter….
magazine ads for moisturizers calls for confusion
Sunday, August 23rd, 2009Looking through a magazine at the ads for moisturizers calls for confusion.
Clinique comfort on call – Now give skin relief in a world of irritants
Lubriderm – Miserable elbows can find happiness
Olay – For the best Skin in years
Curel – How do you heal dry skin? Use a lotion that’s actually attracted to it.
This is just the first four I found. I decided to go to their websites and see just what they are and what they are made of. To keep these writings short enough to be interesting, I will do one at a time.
First we will examine Clinique Comfort on Call. Interesting name. The claim is that it forms a strong healthy barrier to help protect skin from damage.
Unfortunately, I could only find the ingredients Clinique wants you to know about Jabara Citrus fruit, Mangosteen fruit, and Licorice. These are the “added” ingredients not the base. If you look to buy this product, be sure to look at the ingredients (take a magnifying glass) and see where in the list these items are listed.
Looking up the fruits themselves proved to be interesting and at the same time boring.
Jabara – A rare citrus fruit cultivated only in a small village in a remote mountain region of Japan. Often referred to as “magic fruit”, it was registered as a new species in 1979. After hearing the stories, scientists for Clinique looked into this superfood and the result is Clinique’s Comfort on Call. Everything else I found was exact copy of what is written on the Clinique website. It seems they hold the patient on the fruit.
(This picture is of a calamondrin which in looks gives you the idea of what a Jabara looks like.)
Mangosteen – Is a fruit that originated around Indonesia in the Sunda and Spice Islands. A tasty fruit that also boasts potent antioxidant, In the United States, Mangosteen is consumed as a juice or puree or taken by mouth in capsule or tablet form. The rind may be steeped in water to make tea. Folk healers prepare and ointment or salve to apply to the skin for conditions such as eczema, injuries, and infections. I am sure you can find this in health food stores. I could not find it to buy as an ingredient to add to moisturizers.
Licorice root has many beneficial qualities and is often used as an emollient to help care for the skin. It contains anti-inflammatory properties to reduce puffiness. This I can buy as an ingredient to add to skin care products.
Clinique Comfort on Call is not cheap nor is it ridiculously expensive. $39.95 for a small 1.7oz.jar.
I am not saying this is a good or bad product. I personally believe that natural butters and oils with nothing added to make it creamier or so it will last on the shelf for years, are much better for you and your skin.
Next writing will be on Lubriderm – look for it in the next few days.

Is Shea Butter a Miracle?
Thursday, August 20th, 2009Since 1999 I have been making and selling natural skin care products that feature Shea Butter on my site www.silkysoftskincare.com . Actually it started out as Silky Soft Soaps. A year ago, I decided to concentrate on the skin care and drop the soap making. Even though this was the beginning of my business.
I use my own products. After discovering Shea Butter, I have not used any other moisturizer. 100%shea butter When I wash my face shea butter goes on. I keep a jar in the shower and always apply to my body while my pores are still open. In the medicine cabinet is a jar of Shea with Tea Tree Oil. My husband and I use it anytime we have: bites, burns, cuts, etc. I must be allergic to my own sweat! Because in the summer I develop and itchy rash anywhere my clothes fit tight. Shea with tea tree stops the itch and heals the rash. My husband has a patch of exema and he swears by the shea and tea tree oil.
Is Shea Butter a miracle? No..but it is close!

Baby Oil is Not Good For Baby
Saturday, August 15th, 2009It smells nice and it’s soothing for baby, but….
Mineral oil (baby oil) is not good for you or your baby’s skin.
Yes, it will protect against diaper rash by clogging the pores and forming a film and it smells good. But, remember that fragrance oil is also made from chemicals in a chemical lab. These type fragrance oils are the culprits blamed for many skin allergies.
And now for the advertisment that you knew was coming…….Shea Butter – I cannot stress enough the value of shea butter.
All natural Shea Butter is one of the best things you can put on your baby. It is great for treating and preventing diaper rash. If your baby has irritated and red skin caused by diaper rash, shea butter will sooth and relieve the rash. As a preventative it creates an effective layer that will keep your baby dry and prevent diaper rash.
100% Shea Butter is not thin like a lotion. But it melts at body temperature. Put a little on the palms of your hands and rub together to melt, then apply to baby. Read the complete article on Silky Soft Skin Care Learning Center

Buy Natural Instead of Name Brands
Thursday, August 13th, 2009Why should you buy “natural” instead of the name brands on the market?
The name brands add many chemical preservatives for longer shelf life. This may be a year or more. Think about how old that product is when you buy it! To keep their price down to compete with the other brands, they use the cheapest ingredients possible. That is why when a product says “Aloe Vera Cream”, aloe vera is at the bottom of the ingredients list.
Our skin knows what it will or won’t absorb. Natural substances are recognized and readily absorbed into our skin. Natural anti-aging skin products contain vitamins, minerals, anti-toxidants, amino acids, essential fatty acids, and aromas from nature. These are recognized and accepted into our skin. Natural lotions and ointments help our skin to maintain its healthy tone, texture, elasticity, and aroma. Your skin will discard old skin cells, build new ones and in doing so, improves your appearance.
There are many good, natural products on the market. At Silky Soft Skin Care we believe that keeping the ingredient list down to a minimum is important. We sell only 100% Shea Butter with the only added ingredient is natural Vitamin E. We have several creams that are 50% Shea Butter and %50 Another natural ingredient. Take a look at: silkysoftskincare.com Every order receives 3 samples of our other creams.
