Proud to be a Tennessean

My husband and I both grew up in the Nashville area. We were married there and our three children were born there. I still have three brothers that live there. One has lost his home of 40 odd years to the flood.  He and his wife will be ok. They will pick up the pieces and start over.

Tennesseans are neither whining or begging for government help or bailout. Neighbors are helping neighbors, not looting. Like my brother, they are taking stock and moving forward.

Tennesseans have been known to volunteer to help others, please volunteer to help them.

A New Meaning to Brotherly Love

Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a

hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who

was suffering from a rare & serious disease.  Her only

chance of recovery appeared to be a blood

transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had

miraculously survived the same disease and had

developed the antibodies needed to combat the

illness.  The doctor explained the situation to her

little brother, and asked the little boy if he would

be willing to give his blood to his sister.

I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a

deep breath and saying, “Yes I’ll do it if it will save

her.”  As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed

next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing

the color returning to her cheek. Then his face

grew pale and his smile faded.

He looked up at the doctor and asked with a

trembling voice, “Will I start to die right away”.

Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the

doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his

sister all of his blood in order to save her.

Would You Be Afraid

How sad that this one is almost impossible to do in this day and time. We are learning to not trust our fellow man. My husband and I used to always stop to help someone stranded, but now we are afraid to. How about you? Are you afraid to stop?

Have a Happy Day,

Barb

One night, at 11:30 p..m., an older African American

Woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway

Trying to endure a lashing rain storm. Her car had

Broken down and she desperately needed a ride.

Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car.

A young white man stopped to help her, generally

Unheard of in those conflict-filled 1960′s. The man

Took her to safety, helped her get assistance and

Put her into a taxicab.

She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his

Address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a

Knock came on the man’s door. To his surprise, a

Giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A

Special note was attached.

It read:

“Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway

The other night. The rain drenched not only my

Clothes, but also my spirits.  Then you came along.

Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying

Husband’s’ bedside just before he passed away…. God

Bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving

Others.”

Sincerely,

Mrs. Nat King Cole.

How Do You Treat Your Fellow Man?

I am sure many of you have received this in an email. But, I feel it is worth reading again.  Kinda helps restore my faith in College Professors.

Have a Happy Day,

Cleaning Lady.

During my second month of college, our professor
Gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student
And had breezed through the questions until I read
The last one:
“What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?”

Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the

Cleaning woman several times. She was tall,

Dark-haired and in her 50′s, but how would I know her name?

I handed in my paper, leaving the last question

Blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if

The last question would count toward our quiz grade.

“Absolutely, ” said the professor. “In your careers,

You will meet many people.  All are significant.. They

Deserve your attention and care, even if all you do

Is smile and say “hello.”

I’ve never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her

Name was Dorothy.

Soap n Stuff Daily explores Natural Soaps

I confess! I have put my own business on the back burner, while trying to get Soap n Stuff Daily off the ground.

Knowing how hard it is to get your your business seen by the public on the internet, I felt like this would be a help to soap makers.

As most of you know, I made and sold soap for many years. About 2 years ago, I decided to concentrate on Shea Butter products.

The hand made natural soap business has grown and expanded in the last few years. If you haven’t bought any in a while, you owe it to yourself to take a look. Go to Soap n Stuff Daily and scroll down through the many soaps that have been featured in the last 3 months.

There are soaps that look like beautiful flowers, ice cream cones, and even many that look like they have whipped cream on top.

Soaps have been spotlighted from several countries. Dublin Ireland, Canada, England, and Australia. Of course there have been many from America.

Join my Twitter accounts and receive notices of new postings on this and the other site.  http://twitter.com/SilkySoft http://twitter.com/soapsnstuff

Have a Happy Day

Will You be one of the Walking Dead

Picture the Government Task Force. Now picture one that Obama has order to:

  1. Think of ways to take total control of Health Care.
  2. Think of ways to cut costs of the Health Care once the Government has taken control.
  3. Think of items that will cause an uproar and have the media concentrate on this while we (government) slip other items through behind the peoples back.

Answer: Mamograms – Tell women they only need mamograms every two years. What an uproar this will cause.

  • Millions will be save by Medicare. Instead of covering once a year mamograms we cover mamograms every two years.
  • Oh yes, why cover all of the costs? Lets only cover 50%.
  • So what if more women get cancer. If they are on Medicare they are over 65 and not at the priority list
  • This means when they finally reach the top of the prority care list, it will be to late. Subjects will be dead.

What other medical test are covered by Medicare? Oh yes, men’s prostrate test.

  • Lets get a new recomendation that men only need a prostrate exam every two years.
  • And all is repeated again, and again, and again…..

Savings to the Government: No medical treatment cost and no more  Social Security payments.

Are you wearing red today?

I copied this and think it is important for all Americans to read.

Barb

Red  Shirts

If the red shirt thing is new to you, read below how it went for a man.

Last week, while traveling to Chicago on business, I noticed a Marine sergeant traveling with a folded flag, but did not put two and two together.

After we boarded our flight, I turned to the sergeant, who’d been invited to sit in First Class (across from me), and inquired if he was heading home.

No, he responded.
Heading out I asked?

No.  I’m escorting a soldier home.

Going to pick him up?

No. He is with me right now.  He was killed in Iraq , I’m taking him home to his family.

The realization of what he had been asked to do hit me like a punch to the gut. It was an honor for him. He told me that, although he didn’t know the soldier, he had delivered the news of his passing to the soldier’s family and felt as if he knew them after many conversations in so few days.

I turned back to him, extended my hand, and said, Thank you for doing what you do so my family and I can do what we do.

Upon landing in Chicago the pilot stopped short of the gate and made the following announcement over the intercom.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to note that we have had the honor of having Sergeant Steeley of the United States Marine Corps join us on this flight. He is escorting a fallen comrade back home to his family. I ask that you please remain in your seats when we open the forward door to allow Sergeant Steeley to deplane and receive his fellow soldier. We will then turn off the seat belt sign.”

Without a sound, all went as requested. I noticed the sergeant saluting the casket as it was brought off the plane, and his action made me realize that I am proud to be an American.

So here’s a public Thank You to our military Men and Women for what you do so we can live the way we do.

Red Fridays
Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the “silent majority.”  We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers. We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing.

Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of America supports our troops. Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday — and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that … Every red-blooded American who supports our men and women a far, will wear something red.

By word of mouth, press, & TV — let’s make the United States on every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers. If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, coworkers, friends, and family, it will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once “silent” majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on.

The first thing a soldier says when asked “What can we do to make things better for you?” is. “We need your support and your prayers.” Let’s get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example, and wear something red every Friday.

Mean, Little Fire Ants

My husband stepped in a fire ant hill. His legs look like he has the measles.  I am now in biggg trouble.

The best thing to take the sting out is my Shea Butter with Tea Tree Oil. Our jar was empty and I was out of stock! Sold the last jar a few days ago and just had not made anymore.

Guess you know what I am doing today.
